Dedication and Patriotic Spirit Gets PolyJohn Sinks through to Ground Zero
Four days after the attack on New York, PolyJohn received an order for 400 portable sinks from the City of New York’s Special Purchasing Agent at Ground Zero.
“Normally it takes one hour to assemble a sink. Suddenly we had to put together 400 in 48 hours, ” added John Klarich, a manufacturing supervisor at PolyJohn. “There was a great spirit in the shop, because we felt like we were all on the front lines of the relief effort,” he said.
Two days after the initial order, the first full truckload pulled out of Whiting on a Remington Freight semi bound for New York.
Remington Freight driver Richard Kratzer ran the gauntlet of security checkpoints to get into Manhattan. After being searched by the FBI, the truck was then escorted past the World Trade Center devastation by Coast Guard officials to Battery Park where it was unloaded. “Cars honked and people cheered as I drove through the streets of New York,” said Kratzer. They couldn’t have known he was bringing sinks for the clean-up effort, but they could read the slogan emblazoned on all Remington Freight Haulers: “One Family, One People United Through Faith.”
